Description
Multiply all three for normalizedCations.
Stoichiometric calculations translate supplied amounts, formula counts, site occupancies, and valences into a common formula-unit basis. Arithmetic charge or occupancy balance does not prove that a mineral composition is chemically realizable.
Multiply all three for normalizedCations.
When to use this tool
Use Oxide Stoichiometry Normalization Term when you need one supplied-formula, charge, or occupancy term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter measuredOxideAmount, cationsPerOxide, normalizationFactor. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read normalizedCations. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative measuredOxideAmount and cationsPerOxide and a positive normalizationFactor. Multiply all three for normalizedCations.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| measuredOxideAmount | Measured Oxide Amount | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| cationsPerOxide | Cations Per Oxide | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| normalizationFactor | Caller-supplied multiplicative factor on the stated basis. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| normalizedCations | Normalized Cations | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Measured amount must already be on the amount basis expected by the multiplier; mass is not automatically converted to moles. No oxide formula, molecular weight, oxygen basis, or mineral composition is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Normalize and evaluate the complete mineral analysis using the intended chemical model. Verify formulas, molar masses, oxidation states, site capacities, and analytical uncertainty independently.
