Description
Sum formula masses, then return element mass fraction, its reciprocal oxide-per-element factor, and a JSON pair of the labels.
Stoichiometric calculations translate supplied amounts, formula counts, site occupancies, and valences into a common formula-unit basis. Arithmetic charge or occupancy balance does not prove that a mineral composition is chemically realizable.
Sum formula masses, then return element mass fraction, its reciprocal oxide-per-element factor, and a JSON pair of the labels.
When to use this tool
Use Element Oxide Basis Factor when you need one supplied-formula, charge, or occupancy term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter oxideFormula, elementSymbol, elementAtoms, elementAtomicMass, otherAtomCounts, otherAtomicMasses. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read elementMassFraction, oxidePerElementFactor, formulaKey. Use the output convention below.
Require nonempty oxideFormula and elementSymbol labels, a positive integer elementAtoms, positive atomic masses, and equally long nonnegative otherAtomCounts and positive otherAtomicMasses. Sum formula masses, then return element mass fraction, its reciprocal oxide-per-element factor, and a JSON pair of the labels.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- The formula label is not parsed or checked against atom counts and symbols. Atomic masses share units, fractions are dimensionless, and no periodic-table values or oxidation states are selected.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Normalize and evaluate the complete mineral analysis using the intended chemical model. Verify formulas, molar masses, oxidation states, site capacities, and analytical uncertainty independently.
