Isotope Activity Decay Reference Date Term Tool

Shift explicit reference isotope activity by signed elapsed time under a supplied first-order decay constant in matching time units.

Description

Apply exponential activity decay over a supplied signed time interval.

Geochemical results depend on analyte, matrix, dry/anhydrous basis, reference composition, isotope-ratio direction and censoring conventions. A normalized ratio or local correction is distinct from a validated mineral formula or geological interpretation. Operational extraction fractions and nominal site occupancies need their original analytical context.

Apply exponential activity decay over a supplied signed time interval.

When to use this tool

Use Isotope Activity Decay Reference Date Term when checking the stated geochemical reporting basis, local correction or reference convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter referenceActivity, elapsedTime, suppliedDecayConstant. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read activityAtElapsedTime. Use the output convention below.

Require referenceActivity>=0 and suppliedDecayConstant>=0. Return referenceActivity*exp(-constant*elapsedTime).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
referenceActivityReference ActivityRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
elapsedTimeSigned elapsed time in reciprocal suppliedDecayConstant units; negative time increases back-corrected activity.Required. Finite number.
suppliedDecayConstantSupplied Decay ConstantRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.

activityAtElapsedTimeActivity At Elapsed TimeRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Elapsed time may be negative, increasing back-corrected activity; use reciprocal matching time units. No decay constant, isotope identity or radiation-safety assessment is supplied.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified analytical methods, reference materials and appropriate complete geochemical models with qualified laboratory interpretation for actual results and safe handling.
