Description
Calculate the ratio of spike mass to native mass.
Geochemical results depend on analyte, matrix, dry/anhydrous basis, reference composition, isotope-ratio direction and censoring conventions. A normalized ratio or local correction is distinct from a validated mineral formula or geological interpretation. Operational extraction fractions and nominal site occupancies need their original analytical context.
Calculate the ratio of spike mass to native mass.
When to use this tool
Use Geochemical Spike Native Mass Ratio when checking the stated geochemical reporting basis, local correction or reference convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter spikeMass, nativeMass. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read spikeToNativeRatio. Use the output convention below.
Require spikeMass>=0 and nativeMass>0. Return spike/native mass ratio.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| spikeMass | Spike Mass | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| nativeMass | Native Mass | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| spikeToNativeRatio | Spike To Native Ratio | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use the same mass/analyte basis; this does not determine isotope mixing, recovery, a suitable spike amount or a laboratory procedure.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified analytical methods, reference materials and appropriate complete geochemical models with qualified laboratory interpretation for actual results and safe handling.
