Intermediate Heterozygote Screen
Screen a measured heterozygote trait for an intermediate midpoint pattern.
Description
An intermediate heterozygote phenotype can be compared with the midpoint of two homozygote measurements.
An intermediate heterozygote phenotype can be compared with the midpoint of two homozygote measurements. A tolerance distinguishes approximate midpoint behavior.
Screen a measured heterozygote trait for an intermediate midpoint pattern.
When to use Intermediate Heterozygote Screen
Use this for the following task: Screen a measured heterozygote trait for an intermediate midpoint pattern.
Prepare the observed records or explicit model parameters requested below. Keep probabilities as fractions and paired records aligned.
How to use Intermediate Heterozygote Screen and understand its results
- Prepare the observed records or explicit model parameters requested below. Keep probabilities as fractions and paired records aligned.
- Enter firstHomozygoteValue, secondHomozygoteValue, heterozygoteValue, midpointTolerance using the field table, then run the tool.
- Read homozygoteMidpoint, midpointDeviation, intermediateAndNearMidpoint. Interpret flags, units, ordering and placeholder values using the rules below.
- Review any reported issue or failed check, correct the supplied values when appropriate, and verify the result in its intended context.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type and bounds | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| firstHomozygoteValue | First homozygote value | number | Required |
| secondHomozygoteValue | Second homozygote value | number | Required |
| heterozygoteValue | Heterozygote value | number | Required |
| midpointTolerance | Midpoint tolerance | number | Required |
Supply comparable trait values and a nonnegative tolerance. Require the heterozygote strictly inside the parental range and its deviation no greater than tolerance for the flag.1
midpoint=(low+high)/2; deviation=|heterozygote−midpoint| This summarizes the declared operation. Units, indexing, inclusivity and exceptional cases are explained in the surrounding text.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| homozygoteMidpoint | Homozygote midpoint | number |
| midpointDeviation | Midpoint deviation | number |
| intermediateAndNearMidpoint | Intermediate and near midpoint | boolean |

} Limitations and assumptions
A midpoint pattern alone does not establish an inheritance mechanism. Equal homozygote values cannot satisfy strict intermediacy.
The tool evaluates supplied observations or a declared model. It does not establish the biological cause of an observed pattern. Malformed requests produce input errors. A successfully evaluated request can still contain false flags, empty result lists or a result outside the supplied threshold; those outcomes have the meanings stated above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Choose Transgressive Offspring Screen for this operation: Identify offspring trait measurements outside the two-parent range. For a complementary task, use Codominant Expression Screen for this operation: Screen distinct allele-marker signals for simultaneous expression at a caller-defined detection threshold.
The implementation reference documents the exact calculation, supported input shapes and returned fields.
