Representation Support Cell Count Tool

Calculate representation support cell count from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Count distinct cells, distinct cells with at least one supported row, and distinct source IDs on supported rows.

Survey display order, self-description, missingness, and record support are distinct research properties. Literal tokens and counts can preserve those distinctions without inferring a person's identity, preferences, or the meaning of an unprovided response.

Count distinct cells, distinct cells with at least one supported row, and distinct source IDs on supported rows.

When to use this tool

Use Representation Support Cell Count when you need a transparent survey-record, display-order, or time-use calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter cellKeys, sourceIds, supported. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read cells, supportedCells, distinctSupportingSources. Use the output convention below.

Require equally long cellKeys, sourceIds, and supported arrays. Count distinct cells, distinct cells with at least one supported row, and distinct source IDs on supported rows.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Any supported row covers a cell; duplicate rows do not add distinct cells or sources. Support flags are metadata, not independently verified evidence or a representativeness assessment.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the study's consent, vocabulary, missingness, and disclosure methodology for interpretation. Retain self-described information and assess sampling and privacy separately from local record arithmetic.
