Representation Count Suppression Flag Tool

Apply an explicit reporting threshold; this flag alone does not establish disclosure protection.

Description

Return suppressed for count below the minimum, or at or below it when suppressEquality is true.

Survey display order, self-description, missingness, and record support are distinct research properties. Literal tokens and counts can preserve those distinctions without inferring a person's identity, preferences, or the meaning of an unprovided response.

Return suppressed for count below the minimum, or at or below it when suppressEquality is true.

When to use this tool

Use Representation Count Suppression Flag when you need a transparent survey-record, display-order, or time-use calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter count, suppliedMinimum, suppressEquality. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read suppressed. Inspect suppressed before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative integer count and suppliedMinimum. Return suppressed for count below the minimum, or at or below it when suppressEquality is true.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The threshold is caller supplied and no data are actually removed. A single count rule does not ensure anonymity or address complementary disclosure, linked tables, or legal requirements.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the study's consent, vocabulary, missingness, and disclosure methodology for interpretation. Retain self-described information and assess sampling and privacy separately from local record arithmetic.
