Gi Diary Censored Duration Tool

Duration/right-censoring metadata for supplied research diary times, without symptom interpretation.

Description

Use eventEnd for a completed duration or observationEnd otherwise; return rightCensored when unfinished.

Research timing records need a common clock origin, time unit and observation boundary. A corrected interval or censored duration describes the supplied recording model; it does not by itself measure physiological transit or establish a diagnosis.

Use eventEnd for a completed duration or observationEnd otherwise; return rightCensored when unfinished.

When to use this tool

Use Gi Diary Censored Duration when you need a research timing, frame or clock-reference calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter start, observationEnd, eventEnd, ended. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read duration, rightCensored. Inspect rightCensored before interpreting the associated values.

Require observationEnd at least start and, when ended, eventEnd between them. Use eventEnd for a completed duration or observationEnd otherwise; return rightCensored when unfinished.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The unused eventEnd is not chronologically checked. A censored duration is an observed lower bound, not the actual event completion time.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use original timestamps and the study protocol to resolve timing conventions. Physiological interpretation requires the appropriate clinical or research assessment, including observation and calibration uncertainty.
