Formatting: Numeric Open Closed Interval Label Tool

Format finite numeric interval endpoints and explicit inclusion marks while identifying empty equal-endpoint intervals; no implicit infinity notation.

Description

Select square or round endpoint brackets independently and flag an equal-endpoint interval empty unless both ends are closed.

An interval's endpoints and bracket style encode inclusion rules. A range label or comparison symbol can describe supplied numbers without computing its members, proving an inequality or establishing a statistical confidence interval.

Select square or round endpoint brackets independently and flag an equal-endpoint interval empty unless both ends are closed.

When to use this tool

Use Formatting: Numeric Open Closed Interval Label when you need the specified interval or relation display.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter lower, upper, lowerClosed, upperClosed. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.

Require lower no greater than upper. Select square or round endpoint brackets independently and flag an equal-endpoint interval empty unless both ends are closed.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
lowerLowerRequired. Finite number.
upperUpperRequired. Finite number.
lowerClosedLower ClosedRequired. Boolean.
upperClosedUpper ClosedRequired. Boolean.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
resultObject containing the calculated members; expand to inspect the fields below.Required. Object.
result.labelLiteral label; no independent factual or authorization verdict.Calculated result member: string.
result.emptyEmptyCalculated result member: boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This formats a real-number interval; it does not enumerate integer members or support infinity tokens. No units or statistical coverage are inferred.
  • Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a set or interval calculation for membership and emptiness beyond the supported convention. Verify units, unbounded endpoints and integer-versus-real interpretation before using a label as a mathematical specification.
