Regeneration Delay Year Counter

Count observed establishment delay or right-censored time since harvest at last survey, explicitly preserving nondetection; supplied unused establishment year is not treated as an event when unobserved.

Description

Regeneration delay ends only when establishment is observed.

Regeneration delay ends only when establishment is observed. A last survey without establishment records a right-censored elapsed interval.1

Count observed establishment delay or right-censored time since harvest at last survey, explicitly preserving nondetection; supplied unused establishment year is not treated as an event when unobserved.

When to use Regeneration Delay Year Counter

Use this tool to count observed establishment delay or right-censored time since harvest at last survey, explicitly preserving nondetection; supplied unused establishment year is not treated as an event when unobserved.

Gather the tree inventory, plot measurements or model parameters. Check diameter, area, time and moisture conventions; keep paired observations aligned.

How to use Regeneration Delay Year Counter and understand its results

  1. Gather the tree inventory, plot measurements or model parameters. Check diameter, area, time and moisture conventions; keep paired observations aligned.
  2. Enter harvestCalendarYear, firstEstablishedCalendarYear, establishmentObserved, lastSurveyCalendarYear using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read observedOrCensoredDelayYears, isRightCensored. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
harvestCalendarYearHarvest calendar yearnumberRequired
firstEstablishedCalendarYearFirst established calendar yearnumberRequired
establishmentObservedEstablishment observedbooleanRequired
lastSurveyCalendarYearLast survey calendar yearnumberRequired

Enter ordered harvest and last-survey years and an establishment-observed flag. When true, require establishment year inside that interval; when false, ignore that supplied event year. Return elapsed years and right-censoring flag.

delay=(observed establishment year or last survey year)−harvest year

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Censored duration is not a confirmed establishment time or future regeneration prediction.

Numeric inputs and returned numeric values must be finite; an unrepresentable returned value produces an error. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use First Season Seedling Survival Percent: Separate first-season tagged survival among located seedlings from whole-cohort bounds for unlocated tags; missing plants are not forced dead or alive. For a complementary task, use Natural Regeneration Stock Minimum Count Tool: Audit field regeneration counts against caller local minimum density, retaining patch-level shortfall rather than hiding unstocked plots in the pooled density; not legal stocking compliance.
