Description

Sum foreign price×quantity and convert plus fees.

Food affordability calculations combine prices, basket quantities, currency factors and available resources. Fixed-basket arithmetic does not by itself account for substitution, actual benefit rights or an individual household's circumstances.

Sum foreign price×quantity and convert plus fees.

When to use this tool

Use Market Basket Local Currency Exchange Term when you need a supplied food-cost or purchasing-power calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter foreignPrices, quantities, localPerForeign, localFees. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read foreignCost, localCost. Use the output convention below.

Require aligned nonnegative prices/quantities, positive localPerForeign and nonnegative localFees. Sum foreign price×quantity and convert plus fees.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Exchange factor is local units per foreign unit; no current rate or basket specification is selected. Units, price date and fee scope must be consistent.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Align basket contents, currency, price date and household scope before comparison. Verify actual assistance rules and seek the appropriate financial or service guidance for consequential decisions.
