Description

Divide value by each price and return old/new price ratio.

Food affordability calculations combine prices, basket quantities, currency factors and available resources. Fixed-basket arithmetic does not by itself account for substitution, actual benefit rights or an individual household's circumstances.

Divide value by each price and return old/new price ratio.

When to use this tool

Use Food Voucher Purchasing Power Price Factor when you need a supplied food-cost or purchasing-power calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter voucherValue, oldBasketPrice, newBasketPrice. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read oldBaskets, newBaskets, realValueFactor. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative voucher value and positive old/new basket prices. Divide value by each price and return old/new price ratio.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Basket contents and currency must be comparable. The ratio is purchasing-power retention under fixed prices, not an official inflation index or entitlement decision.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Align basket contents, currency, price date and household scope before comparison. Verify actual assistance rules and seek the appropriate financial or service guidance for consequential decisions.
