Description

Return total outlay and nonfood access-cost share.

Food affordability calculations combine prices, basket quantities, currency factors and available resources. Fixed-basket arithmetic does not by itself account for substitution, actual benefit rights or an individual household's circumstances.

Return total outlay and nonfood access-cost share.

When to use this tool

Use Food Access Market Travel Cost Share when you need a supplied food-cost or purchasing-power calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter foodCost, roundTripFare, otherAccessCost. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read totalOutlay, accessShare. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative food, fare and other access costs with positive total. Return total outlay and nonfood access-cost share.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Fare is already round-trip and is not doubled. Values share currency and period; actual access, entitlement and affordability are not determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Align basket contents, currency, price date and household scope before comparison. Verify actual assistance rules and seek the appropriate financial or service guidance for consequential decisions.
