Split a supplied loan payment after a supplied interest charge. A negative principal component explicitly represents negative amortization.

Description

Subtract nonnegative interestCharge from nonnegative payment for principal.

Financial model terms depend on a currency, valuation date, and stated formula. A supplied discount or allocation rule is a modeling assumption and does not establish a market price or an appropriate investment decision.

Subtract nonnegative interestCharge from nonnegative payment for principal.

When to use this tool

Use Loan Payment Principal Interest Split when you need one financial arithmetic component under explicit supplied assumptions.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter payment, interestCharge. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read principal. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Payment below interest produces negative principal; no amortization schedule, fees, lender allocation rule, or affordability assessment is provided.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Evaluate the complete cash-flow model, contract terms, and relevant professional advice before acting on the result.
