Feng Shui Eight-Direction Sector Calculator

Classify a bearing into eight centered half-open compass sectors under an explicitly declared true/magnetic reference; no magnetic correction or efficacy claim.

Description

Shift normalized bearing by 22.5 degrees and floor into eight clockwise 45-degree sectors starting north.

Traditional directional systems assign named sectors to compass bearings. A numerical sector mapping depends on its origin, widths and boundary convention; true and magnetic reference labels do not themselves perform a declination correction.

Shift normalized bearing by 22.5 degrees and floor into eight clockwise 45-degree sectors starting north.

When to use this tool

Use Feng Shui Eight-Direction Sector Calculator when you need the specified traditional bearing-label mapping.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter bearingDegrees, reference. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.

Require bearingDegrees 0-360 and true/magnetic reference. Shift normalized bearing by 22.5 degrees and floor into eight clockwise 45-degree sectors starting north.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Boundary ties go into the next clockwise sector. No declination is applied and traditional sector labels do not establish predictive effects or safe building design.
  • Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use an appropriate compass and coordinate-reference method for actual orientation. Treat symbolic sector labels as a cultural convention and assess practical building or environmental questions through the relevant professional methods.
