Description
Return absolute zipper-stop/seam-position distance and distance-minus-required margin.
A pattern's seam and closure dimensions combine finished lengths with allowances, overlaps and offsets. A local length budget describes an ideal construction; fabric thickness, movement and fitting can change the practical result.
Return absolute zipper-stop/seam-position distance and distance-minus-required margin.
When to use this tool
Use Zipper Stop Seam Clearance when you need a local pattern, seam or closure dimension check.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter zipperStopPosition, seamPosition, requiredClearance. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read clearance, margin. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative requiredClearance. Return absolute zipper-stop/seam-position distance and distance-minus-required margin.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| zipperStopPosition | Zipper Stop Position | Required. Finite number. |
| seamPosition | Seam Position | Required. Finite number. |
| requiredClearance | Required Clearance | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| clearance | Clearance | Required. Finite number. |
| margin | Signed allowance under the subtraction order above. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Positions and clearance share a length unit. Absolute distance does not identify which side of the seam is clear or verify fit, construction or zipper suitability.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check the complete pattern and make an appropriate sample in the intended material. Review seam construction, allowances, shrinkage and fitting rather than treating one margin as complete garment validation.
