Description

Center (buttons-1) equal gaps and return half the leftover as endMargin plus feasibility.

A pattern's seam and closure dimensions combine finished lengths with allowances, overlaps and offsets. A local length budget describes an ideal construction; fabric thickness, movement and fitting can change the practical result.

Center (buttons-1) equal gaps and return half the leftover as endMargin plus feasibility.

When to use this tool

Use Button Spacing End Margin Balance when you need a local pattern, seam or closure dimension check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter openingLength, buttons, spacing. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read endMargin, feasible. Inspect feasible before interpreting the associated values.

Require nonnegative opening length/spacing and at least one integer button. Center (buttons-1) equal gaps and return half the leftover as endMargin plus feasibility.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • A negative margin exposes oversize spacing and one button uses no gap. No fastening strength, placement constraints or fit is assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the complete pattern and make an appropriate sample in the intended material. Review seam construction, allowances, shrinkage and fitting rather than treating one margin as complete garment validation.
