Description
Add waist+seamEnds+overlap+signed ease and subtract from cut length.
A pattern's seam and closure dimensions combine finished lengths with allowances, overlaps and offsets. A local length budget describes an ideal construction; fabric thickness, movement and fitting can change the practical result.
Add waist+seamEnds+overlap+signed ease and subtract from cut length.
When to use this tool
Use Waistband Closure Overlap Balance when you need a local pattern, seam or closure dimension check.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter cutLength, waistLength, seamEnds, overlap, ease. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read requiredLength, surplus. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative cut, waist, seam-end and overlap lengths. Add waist+seamEnds+overlap+signed ease and subtract from cut length.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- SeamEnds is already the total end allowance, not doubled. Ease can be negative; no body fit, material stretch or complete waistband pattern is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check the complete pattern and make an appropriate sample in the intended material. Review seam construction, allowances, shrinkage and fitting rather than treating one margin as complete garment validation.
