Pleat Visible To Total Width Tool

Add the caller-defined total hidden underfold width per pleat to a visible panel width; no particular pleat style is assumed.

Description

Multiply nonnegative underfoldWidth by integer pleatCount for hiddenWidth and add visibleWidth for totalFabricWidth.

Garment and pattern calculations use measurements, allowances, fold conventions, and repeat positions. A local calculation is one pattern component; fabric behavior, fit, and manufacturing tolerances require separate assessment.

Multiply nonnegative underfoldWidth by integer pleatCount for hiddenWidth and add visibleWidth for totalFabricWidth.

When to use this tool

Use Pleat Visible To Total Width when you need a bounded pattern, spacing, or allowance component using consistent length units.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter visibleWidth, underfoldWidth, pleatCount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read totalFabricWidth, hiddenWidth. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Underfold width is already the supplied total take-up per pleat; no fold-style multiplier, seam allowance, or fabric behavior is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the complete pattern and test fit or material behavior before production.
