Knit Stitch Count From Gauge Tool

Convert measured knitting gauge to a stitch count, returning both raw and nearest integer counts with half stitches rounded upward.

Description

Multiply widthCentimeters by positive stitchesPerTenCentimeters and divide by ten for rawStitchCount.

Garment and pattern calculations use measurements, allowances, fold conventions, and repeat positions. A local calculation is one pattern component; fabric behavior, fit, and manufacturing tolerances require separate assessment.

Multiply widthCentimeters by positive stitchesPerTenCentimeters and divide by ten for rawStitchCount.

When to use this tool

Use Knit Stitch Count From Gauge when you need a bounded pattern, spacing, or allowance component using consistent length units.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter widthCentimeters, stitchesPerTenCentimeters. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read rawStitchCount, roundedStitchCount. Use the output convention below.

Multiply widthCentimeters by positive stitchesPerTenCentimeters and divide by ten for rawStitchCount. Round to the nearest integer for roundedStitchCount.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
widthCentimetersWidth CentimetersRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
stitchesPerTenCentimetersStitches Per Ten CentimetersRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
rawStitchCountRaw Stitch CountRequired. Finite number.
roundedStitchCountRounded Stitch CountRequired. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Nonnegative half-stitch ties round upward; stitch-pattern multiples, edge stitches, gauge uncertainty, stretch, and garment fit are not considered.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the complete pattern and test fit or material behavior before production.
