Description
Divide endpoint span by buttonCount - 1 for spacing.
Garment and pattern calculations use measurements, allowances, fold conventions, and repeat positions. A local calculation is one pattern component; fabric behavior, fit, and manufacturing tolerances require separate assessment.
Divide endpoint span by buttonCount - 1 for spacing.
When to use this tool
Use Button Spacing Equal Placket Gap when you need a bounded pattern, spacing, or allowance component using consistent length units.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstButtonPosition, lastButtonPosition, buttonCount. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read spacing. Use the output convention below.
Require at least two buttons and lastButtonPosition no earlier than first. Divide endpoint span by buttonCount - 1 for spacing.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstButtonPosition | First Button Position | Required. Finite number. |
| lastButtonPosition | Last Button Position | Required. Finite number. |
| buttonCount | Button Count | Required. Safe integer; minimum 2. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| spacing | Spacing | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Positions include both end buttons; equal endpoints yield zero spacing and actual button size, overlap, fit, and design suitability are not checked.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
