Description
Multiply layer counts, subtract their maximum for extra layers, and multiply product by thickness.
A pattern's seam and closure dimensions combine finished lengths with allowances, overlaps and offsets. A local length budget describes an ideal construction; fabric thickness, movement and fitting can change the practical result.
Multiply layer counts, subtract their maximum for extra layers, and multiply product by thickness.
When to use this tool
Use Hem Corner Bulk Layer Count when you need a local pattern, seam or closure dimension check.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter horizontalLayers, verticalLayers, fabricThickness. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read overlapLayers, extraLayers, stackThickness. Use the output convention below.
Require positive integer horizontal/vertical layers and nonnegative thickness. Multiply layer counts, subtract their maximum for extra layers, and multiply product by thickness.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| horizontalLayers | Horizontal Layers | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| verticalLayers | Vertical Layers | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| fabricThickness | Fabric Thickness | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| overlapLayers | Product of the two supplied layer counts under this prescribed stack model. | Required. Safe integer. |
| extraLayers | Extra Layers | Required. Safe integer. |
| stackThickness | Stack Thickness | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This prescribed multiplicative stack model is not a universal fold-construction count. Compression, seam geometry and actual sewing suitability are not verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check the complete pattern and make an appropriate sample in the intended material. Review seam construction, allowances, shrinkage and fitting rather than treating one margin as complete garment validation.
