Mutation Type Reference Derived Pair

Classify one explicit unambiguous DNA base substitution as unchanged, transition, or transversion.

Loading tool…

Description

Classify an uppercase reference/derived base pair as unchanged, transition or transversion.

Evolutionary summaries depend on sampled sequences/populations, reference states, ploidy, time units and stochastic assumptions. A mixture expectation differs from a drift simulation, and a callable-allele denominator differs from an individual count. Labels and local tree conditions do not reconstruct ancestry or establish a biological mechanism.

Classify an uppercase reference/derived base pair as unchanged, transition or transversion.

When to use this tool

Use Mutation Type Reference Derived Pair when checking the stated evolutionary record, reference, expectation or scale convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter referenceBase, derivedBase. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read changed, classification. Inspect changed before interpreting the associated values.

Accept only uppercase A, C, G or T for reference and derived bases. Equal bases are unchanged; changes within A/G or C/T are transitions, and other changes are transversions.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The labels describe one supplied nucleotide pair; no reference assembly, mutation event, strand context, biological effect or diagnosis is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified samples/references and appropriate complete phylogenetic, population-genetic or statistical models for actual biological inference and uncertainty.
