Public Currency Subunit Factor Tool

Convert supplied historical currency subunits using an explicit ratio, not a historical currency table.

Loading tool…

Description

Divide signed subunits by that factor.

Historical currencies may divide major units into several levels with nondecimal bases. Supplied denomination arithmetic can preserve exact quantities, but it does not establish an exchange rate, purchasing power or the identity of an actual coin.

Divide signed subunits by that factor.

When to use this tool

Use Public Currency Subunit Factor when you need a supplied historical denomination conversion or integer split.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter subunits, subunitsPerMajor. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read majorUnits. Use the output convention below.

Require positive subunitsPerMajor. Divide signed subunits by that factor.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The conversion base is supplied, not an historical exchange rate or a selected coin system. No current monetary value, inflation or artifact authenticity is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Verify the relevant time, jurisdiction and denomination system from the source records. Use separate evidence for valuation, exchange and coin authenticity.
