Eu Celex Identifier Components Tool

Split a basic CELEX identifier into sector, year, document type and four-digit document number. Consolidated dates, corrigenda and suffix forms are outside this grammar.

Description

Parse one sector digit, four year digits, one or two uppercase document-type letters, and four final digits.

An identifier can have the expected character layout and still contain an incorrect check digit or refer to no assigned record. Layout screening is an early data-cleaning step rather than an authoritative identifier lookup.

Parse one sector digit, four year digits, one or two uppercase document-type letters, and four final digits.

When to use this tool

Use Eu Celex Identifier Components when you need to check the supported identifier spelling before a separate check-digit or assignment check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter identifier. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read sector, year, documentType, documentNumber. Use the output convention below.

Parse one sector digit, four year digits, one or two uppercase document-type letters, and four final digits. Return numeric sector/year and the text document number with its leading zeros.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is a bounded CELEX-like component grammar, not the full set of identifier forms, assigned document types, or a legal-document lookup.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a dedicated checksum validator and the issuing registry when identifier validity or assignment matters.
