Rhythmic Cycle Beat Phase

Wrap a supplied beat position into a caller-defined rhythmic cycle without identifying a musical meter.

Description

Wrap a signed beat position into a supplied rhythmic cycle.

Musical field records distinguish performer/community attribution, transcription and naming sources, cyclic beat coordinates and recorded permission. A public-access label is different from a reuse license, and a numerical timing residual is different from performance interpretation. Cultural context and actual consent remain tied to original sources.

Wrap a signed beat position into a supplied rhythmic cycle.

When to use this tool

Use Rhythmic Cycle Beat Phase when checking the stated public-record, timing, attribution or permission convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter beatPosition, beatsPerCycle. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read phaseBeats, phaseFraction. Use the output convention below.

Require beatsPerCycle>0. Reduce signed beatPosition modulo cycle length to [0,cycle), mapping numerical endpoint rounding to zero; return phase in beats and phase/cycle fraction.1

beatsPerCycleBeats Per CycleRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Beat position and cycle length may be fractional; no tempo, meter, audio onset or musical tradition is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use original recordings and community/source conventions, with appropriate verified consent and rights review for actual interpretation, reproduction or sharing.
