Recording Channel Onset Offset

Compare explicitly marked channel onsets in samples and seconds at a supplied common sample rate.

Description

Measure a signed onset offset between recording channels.

Musical field records distinguish performer/community attribution, transcription and naming sources, cyclic beat coordinates and recorded permission. A public-access label is different from a reuse license, and a numerical timing residual is different from performance interpretation. Cultural context and actual consent remain tied to original sources.

Measure a signed onset offset between recording channels.

When to use this tool

Use Recording Channel Onset Offset when checking the stated public-record, timing, attribution or permission convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstChannelOnsetSamples, secondChannelOnsetSamples, sampleRateHz. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read offsetSamples, offsetSeconds. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative whole channel-onset sample indices and sampleRateHz>0. Return second-first sample offset and divide by rate for seconds.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
firstChannelOnsetSamplesFirst Channel Onset SamplesRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
secondChannelOnsetSamplesSecond Channel Onset SamplesRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
sampleRateHzSample Rate HzRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

offsetSamplesOffset SamplesRequired. Safe integer.
offsetSecondsSecond-minus-first sample onset divided by sampleRateHz.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Onsets and rate are supplied rather than measured; no audio is loaded, channels aligned or actual performance timing analyzed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use original recordings and community/source conventions, with appropriate verified consent and rights review for actual interpretation, reproduction or sharing.
