Performance Call Response Lag Term Tool

Calculate performance call response lag term from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return responseStart-minus-callEnd, its wrapped fraction of a cycle and overlap when the signed lag is negative.

Musical timing can be expressed in seconds, pulses, beats and phrase positions. A grid or cycle is an explicit model; calculating its coordinates does not detect onsets, determine a tradition's meter or evaluate a performance.

Return responseStart-minus-callEnd, its wrapped fraction of a cycle and overlap when the signed lag is negative.

When to use this tool

Use Performance Call Response Lag Term when you need a supplied timing-grid, pulse or phrase calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter callEnd, responseStart, cycleDuration. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lag, cyclePhase, overlap. Inspect overlap before interpreting the associated values.

Require positive cycleDuration. Return responseStart-minus-callEnd, its wrapped fraction of a cycle and overlap when the signed lag is negative.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative lag can wrap to a positive phase; inspect lag as well. No audio segmentation, interaction meaning or culturally valid interpretation is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the recording and its relevant musical context for transcription or interpretation. Keep time units, pulse definitions, tempo changes and source annotations explicit.
