Description

Add cycle pulses and pickups, then convert into seconds.

Musical timing can be expressed in seconds, pulses, beats and phrase positions. A grid or cycle is an explicit model; calculating its coordinates does not detect onsets, determine a tradition's meter or evaluate a performance.

Add cycle pulses and pickups, then convert into seconds.

When to use this tool

Use Authorized Dance Music Phrase Length when you need a supplied timing-grid, pulse or phrase calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter cycles, pulsesPerCycle, secondsPerPulse, pickupPulses. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read totalPulses, phraseSeconds. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative integer cycles/pickups, positive pulsesPerCycle and secondsPerPulse. Add cycle pulses and pickups, then convert into seconds.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Pickup may exceed one cycle and authorization is not checked despite the tool's name. No actual dance/music structure or culturally permitted use is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the recording and its relevant musical context for transcription or interpretation. Keep time units, pulse definitions, tempo changes and source annotations explicit.
