WBGT-Style Heat Stress Simplified Index Calculator

WBGT arithmetic from actual natural wet-bulb and globe measurements, not a substitute using humidity/air temperature or exposure authorization.

Description

Calculate WBGT-style heat arithmetic from actual sensor temperatures and a solar-exposure flag.

Wet-bulb globe temperature combines measurements that reflect evaporative and radiant heat conditions. This tool implements WBGT-style arithmetic from actual natural wet-bulb, globe and dry-bulb temperatures; it does not derive a heat index from humidity.1

When to use this tool

Calculate WBGT-style heat arithmetic from actual sensor temperatures and a solar-exposure flag. Use it when the input measurements and conventions below match the operation you need.

  • Prepare naturalWetBulbC, globeC, dryBulbC, outdoorSolarFlag, respecting the measurement basis and boundaries below.
  • Compare the worked example with your intended operation before reusing its result.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter every field in the input table using the stated units and exact supported selector spelling where applicable.
  2. Run the tool. Correct input errors before interpreting an output.
  3. Read the result fields below; use accompanying flags and the stated sign, boundary or model convention when interpreting a number.

outdoorSolarFlag must be zero or one. For one, measuredWbgtC equals 0.7 times naturalWetBulbC plus 0.2 times globeC plus 0.1 times dryBulbC. For zero, it equals 0.7 times naturalWetBulbC plus 0.3 times globeC. Supply actual sensor measurements in degrees Celsius.2

Limitations and assumptions

  • Ordinary air temperature and relative humidity are not substitutes for the required sensors. Instrument placement, equilibration, clothing, workload, acclimatization and work/rest limits are not determined.
  • Every declared field is required and unexpected fields are rejected. Numeric inputs must be finite; input errors are distinct from a valid false result or an explicitly qualified output.
  • Extremely large inputs and nonfinite or excessively large outputs are rejected. List positions reported by the tool use zero-based indices unless stated otherwise.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use an assessment method and reference edition that match the task and population. This calculation or supplied record is one part of the evidence; it does not replace observation of the actual work. Compare the scope of the nearby tools below before substituting one.
