Sample Collection Preservation Lag Tool

Record an ordered sample collection-to-preservation interval on a shared timeline without assigning holding-time compliance.

Description

Require preservationTimestampSeconds no earlier than collectionTimestampSeconds and return their difference.

Environmental records use measurement bases, sample conventions, dates, and source labels. A calculation applies the supplied convention; it does not verify sampling quality, detect contamination, or establish compliance.

Require preservationTimestampSeconds no earlier than collectionTimestampSeconds and return their difference.

When to use this tool

Use Sample Collection Preservation Lag when you need one environmental data component with its basis and limitations stated.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter collectionTimestampSeconds, preservationTimestampSeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read lagSeconds. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use synchronized clocks; lag alone does not verify preservative, storage conditions, sample integrity, or compliance with an analytical method.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the full sampling method, analytical uncertainty, and applicable assessment requirements separately.
