Description
Return emissions = activity*activityUnitScale*emissionFactor.
A pollutant load combines concentration with a compatible flow, volume or activity factor. A load rate has amount-per-time units, whereas an integrated load also includes duration; concentration differences alone do not describe removal when flows differ.
Return emissions = activity*activityUnitScale*emissionFactor.
When to use this tool
Use Emission Factor Activity Unit Crosswalk when checking one supplied emission, transport or treatment mass-balance contribution.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter activity, emissionFactor, activityUnitScale. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read emissions. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative activity and emissionFactor and positive activityUnitScale. Return emissions = activity*activityUnitScale*emissionFactor. activityUnitScale converts the recorded activity unit to the emission factor's denominator; emissionFactor is emission mass per that converted activity unit.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| activity | Activity | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| emissionFactor | Emission Factor | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| activityUnitScale | Activity Unit Scale | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| emissions | Emissions | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- No factor database, fuel property or regulatory inventory method is selected. This is a linear activity-factor term without control efficiency, temporal variation or source-specific validation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Integrate changing measurements over time and reconcile storage and reactions when a constant-condition product is insufficient.
