Dissolved Oxygen Saturation Deficit Term Tool

Use caller-supplied matching-condition saturation concentration; no salinity/temperature lookup is invented.

Description

Return deficit = suppliedSaturation-measured and saturationFraction = measured/suppliedSaturation.

Environmental measurements can require background subtraction, recovery correction, calibration or a common reference basis. Corrected values can be signed; a numerical correction is separate from detection, analytical validity and health interpretation.

Return deficit = suppliedSaturation-measured and saturationFraction = measured/suppliedSaturation.

When to use this tool

Use Dissolved Oxygen Saturation Deficit Term when checking a supplied measurement correction, comparison or calibration term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter measured, suppliedSaturation. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read deficit, saturationFraction. Use the output convention below.

Require positive suppliedSaturation and nonnegative measured. Return deficit = suppliedSaturation-measured and saturationFraction = measured/suppliedSaturation. Use the same dissolved-oxygen concentration unit; a fraction above one indicates supersaturation relative to the supplied reference.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Temperature, pressure, salinity and the saturation model are not computed. A negative deficit is retained and does not independently determine ecological condition or water safety.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the relevant analytical method, quality-control records and uncertainty model before classifying a corrected measurement.
