Description
Return observedShare = markedArea/surveyedArea.
Environmental monitoring coverage depends on what counts in the denominator. Time, effort, area, sampled volume and exposure weights describe different support measures; excluding missing or ineligible portions changes the question answered by a fraction.
Return observedShare = markedArea/surveyedArea.
When to use this tool
Use Mold Survey Observed Area Share when checking a monitoring or sampling share with an explicit inclusion and overlap convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter surveyedArea, markedArea, unobservedArea, uncertainArea. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read observedShare, minimumWholeShare, maximumWholeShare. Use the output convention below.
Require positive surveyedArea, nonnegative markedArea and uncertainArea with their sum <= surveyedArea, and nonnegative unobservedArea. Return observedShare = markedArea/surveyedArea. Over the whole area, return minimumWholeShare = markedArea/(surveyedArea+unobservedArea) and maximumWholeShare = (markedArea+uncertainArea+unobservedArea)/(surveyedArea+unobservedArea).1

| uncertainArea | Uncertain Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| observedShare | Observed Share | Required. Finite number. |
| minimumWholeShare | Minimum Whole Share | Required. Finite number. |
| maximumWholeShare | Maximum Whole Share | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The bounds assign none or all uncertain and unobserved area to the marked condition; they are not statistical confidence limits. Survey marks do not diagnose mold species, exposure, building habitability or health effects.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review source intervals and sampling design, and compute overlaps from actual records when an aggregate deduction cannot be justified.
