Environmental Health Survey Household Base Tool

One explicit household/person denominator correction, not a survey estimator.

Loading tool…

Description

Return samplePeoplePerHousehold = surveyPeople/surveyHouseholds, targetPeoplePerHousehold = targetPeople/targetHouseholds and correctedPersonEstimate = householdEstimate*samplePeoplePerHousehold/targetPeoplePerHousehold.

Household and person denominators describe different survey units. A household-size adjustment can rescale a supplied estimate, but it does not replace a probability sample, response adjustment or an exposure model.

Return samplePeoplePerHousehold = surveyPeople/surveyHouseholds, targetPeoplePerHousehold = targetPeople/targetHouseholds and correctedPersonEstimate = householdEstimate*samplePeoplePerHousehold/targetPeoplePerHousehold.

When to use this tool

Use Environmental Health Survey Household Base when checking a declared household-to-person size-ratio adjustment.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter surveyHouseholds, surveyPeople, targetHouseholds, targetPeople, householdEstimate. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read samplePeoplePerHousehold, targetPeoplePerHousehold, correctedPersonEstimate. Use the output convention below.

Require positive whole surveyHouseholds, surveyPeople, targetHouseholds and targetPeople. Return samplePeoplePerHousehold = surveyPeople/surveyHouseholds, targetPeoplePerHousehold = targetPeople/targetHouseholds and correctedPersonEstimate = householdEstimate*samplePeoplePerHousehold/targetPeoplePerHousehold.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The supplied householdEstimate is a finite signed magnitude on the source household basis; the formula rescales it by relative household size. This simple adjustment is not survey weighting, causal inference or a validated estimate of individual exposure prevalence.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use appropriate survey weights and population information for inference, rather than relying on a household-size correction alone.
