Storage Roundtrip Cost Term Tool

Convert input energy price to an output basis using a supplied round-trip efficiency and additive cost.

Loading tool…

Description

outputUnitCost = inputEnergyPrice/roundtripEfficiency+outputOtherCost.

Energy price comparisons require consistent delivered or input energy units, efficiency, calorific basis and reporting period. Dividing by efficiency increases the input needed for a delivered unit; nominal price differences alone need not represent a saving.

outputUnitCost = inputEnergyPrice/roundtripEfficiency+outputOtherCost.

When to use this tool

Use Storage Roundtrip Cost Term when checking one supplied energy-price normalization or cost contribution.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter inputEnergyPrice, roundtripEfficiency, outputOtherCost. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read outputUnitCost. Use the output convention below.

Require roundtripEfficiency in (0,1]. outputUnitCost = inputEnergyPrice/roundtripEfficiency+outputOtherCost. Both terms must use the same currency per delivered-energy unit after the efficiency adjustment.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
inputEnergyPriceInput Energy PriceRequired. Finite number.
roundtripEfficiencyRoundtrip EfficiencyRequired. Finite number; maximum 1; strictly above 0.
outputOtherCostAdditional currency per delivered-energy unit, added after the input-price efficiency adjustment.Required. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
outputUnitCostOutput Unit CostRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Signed prices are accepted. This constant unit-cost term omits capacity costs, degradation, timing and operating constraints unless included in supplied costs.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full tariff, operating profile and cost boundary when assessing real bills, investments or load-shifting decisions.
