Gas Volume Calorific Billing Factor Tool

MJ converted to kWh using 3.6 MJ/kWh; the caller supplies pressure/temperature correction and calorific basis.

Description

correctedVolume = meteredVolume*correctionFactor; kwh = correctedVolume*calorificMjPerVolume/3.6; cost = kwh*pricePerKwh.

Energy price comparisons require consistent delivered or input energy units, efficiency, calorific basis and reporting period. Dividing by efficiency increases the input needed for a delivered unit; nominal price differences alone need not represent a saving.

correctedVolume = meteredVolume*correctionFactor; kwh = correctedVolume*calorificMjPerVolume/3.6; cost = kwh*pricePerKwh.

When to use this tool

Use Gas Volume Calorific Billing Factor when checking one supplied energy-price normalization or cost contribution.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter meteredVolume, correctionFactor, calorificMjPerVolume, pricePerKwh. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read correctedVolume, kwh, cost. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative meteredVolume and positive correctionFactor and calorificMjPerVolume. correctedVolume = meteredVolume*correctionFactor; kwh = correctedVolume*calorificMjPerVolume/3.6; cost = kwh*pricePerKwh.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Calorific value is MJ per corrected volume unit; 3.6 converts MJ to kWh. Gas composition, reference-state corrections and actual billing terms are supplied rather than calculated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full tariff, operating profile and cost boundary when assessing real bills, investments or load-shifting decisions.
