Description
Return a specimen section’s signed position offset from a reference in a supplied unique order.
Dental bench and specimen records use supplied codes, sequence identifiers and orientation labels. Literal label agreement and numeric order are separate from verification of an instrument standard, anatomical side or clinical record.
Return a specimen section’s signed position offset from a reference in a supplied unique order.
When to use this tool
Use Specimen Section Order Offset when checking a supplied specimen or instrument-record convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter sectionId, referenceId, suppliedOrder. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read known, offset. Inspect known before interpreting the associated values.
Require unique suppliedOrder identifiers. If both sectionId and referenceId occur, known = true and offset is their zero-based index difference; otherwise known = false and offset = 0.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| sectionId | Section Id | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| referenceId | Reference Id | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| suppliedOrder | Supplied Order | Required. Array of text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192; maximum items 256. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| known | Known | Required. Boolean. |
| offset | Section index minus reference index when both exist, otherwise zero placeholder; inspect known. | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- A zero unknown offset differs from two known identical positions. This inspects a supplied specimen order, not actual anatomy or completeness of a clinical record.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the authoritative source and actual specimen or instrument documentation before interpreting labels as standards or clinical findings.
