Description
observedCycles = endCount-startCount; residual = observedCycles-suppliedExpectedCycles.
Dental bench and specimen records use supplied codes, sequence identifiers and orientation labels. Literal label agreement and numeric order are separate from verification of an instrument standard, anatomical side or clinical record.
observedCycles = endCount-startCount; residual = observedCycles-suppliedExpectedCycles.
When to use this tool
Use Instrument Cycle Count Residual when checking a supplied specimen or instrument-record convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter startCount, endCount, suppliedExpectedCycles. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read observedCycles, residual. Use the output convention below.
Require endCount >= startCount and nonnegative whole suppliedExpectedCycles. observedCycles = endCount-startCount; residual = observedCycles-suppliedExpectedCycles.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| startCount | Start Count | Required. Safe integer. |
| endCount | End Count | Required. Safe integer. |
| suppliedExpectedCycles | Supplied Expected Cycles | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| observedCycles | Observed Cycles | Required. Safe integer. |
| residual | Residual | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Counter differences may be fractional under the numeric contract. This is a bench-record comparison, not instrument fatigue life, sterilization validation or reuse authorization.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the authoritative source and actual specimen or instrument documentation before interpreting labels as standards or clinical findings.
