Description
Return ^? for 127; otherwise prepend a caret to the character at asciiCode+64.
Control characters can be displayed using visible Unicode pictures or caret notation. These representations show a control value to a reader; they are not the original bytes or instructions to execute terminal behavior.
Return ^? for 127; otherwise prepend a caret to the character at asciiCode+64.
When to use this tool
Use Encoding: Ascii Control Caret Token when producing a visible representation of one supported ASCII control value.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter asciiCode. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.
Require whole asciiCode in [0,31] or exactly 127. Return ^? for 127; otherwise prepend a caret to the character at asciiCode+64.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| asciiCode | Ascii Code | Required. Safe integer. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| result | Object containing the named calculated members below. | Required. Object. |
| result.caretToken | Caret Token | Calculated result member: string. |

"input": {
"asciiCode": 0
},
"output": {
"result": {
"caretToken": "^@"
}
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- This emits conventional caret-notation text, not the underlying control byte or an instruction to a terminal. Ordinary printable ASCII and space are rejected.
- Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use actual byte encoding or an appropriate escaping policy when transmitting data rather than displaying a control label.
