Cyclic Voltammetry Peak Separation Gap Tool

Calculate cyclic voltammetry peak separation gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

separation = anodicPeak-cathodicPeak; midpoint is their arithmetic mean; referenceGap = separation-referenceSeparation.

Electrochemical potentials require a common reference electrode, unit and sign convention. Endpoint differences and scan partitions are record operations; changing the reference scale or correcting drift needs explicit supplied offsets.

separation = anodicPeak-cathodicPeak; midpoint is their arithmetic mean; referenceGap = separation-referenceSeparation.

When to use this tool

Use Cyclic Voltammetry Peak Separation Gap when checking a supplied potential reference or scan-boundary convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter anodicPeak, cathodicPeak, referenceSeparation. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read separation, midpoint, referenceGap. Use the output convention below.

Require anodicPeak >= cathodicPeak and nonnegative referenceSeparation. separation = anodicPeak-cathodicPeak; midpoint is their arithmetic mean; referenceGap = separation-referenceSeparation.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Peaks share a potential unit and reference. This arithmetic does not detect peaks, correct resistance or establish reversibility from the gap alone.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated references and full recorded waveforms when drift, reversal detection, peak fitting or experimental interpretation matters.
