Description
delta = currentPotential-previousPotential; direction is Math.sign(delta), returning -1, 0 or 1.
Electrochemical potentials require a common reference electrode, unit and sign convention. Endpoint differences and scan partitions are record operations; changing the reference scale or correcting drift needs explicit supplied offsets.
delta = currentPotential-previousPotential; direction is Math.sign(delta), returning -1, 0 or 1.
When to use this tool
Use Cyclic Sweep Direction Sign when checking a supplied potential reference or scan-boundary convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter previousPotential, currentPotential. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read direction, delta. Use the output convention below.
delta = currentPotential-previousPotential; direction is Math.sign(delta), returning -1, 0 or 1.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| previousPotential | Previous Potential | Required. Finite number. |
| currentPotential | Current Potential | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| direction | Direction | Required. Safe integer. |
| delta | Delta | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use compatible potential references. Exact equality is stationary without tolerance; two points do not locate a scan reversal or establish elapsed time and scan rate.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated references and full recorded waveforms when drift, reversal detection, peak fitting or experimental interpretation matters.
