Transformer Turns Ratio Reflected Inductance Tool

Reflect secondary inductance to the primary for ratio N_primary/N_secondary.

Loading tool…

Description

reflected = inductance*ratio², where ratio is target-side turns divided by source-side turns for this reflection convention.

Magnetic coupling uses explicit winding, current and voltage references. Turns-square reflection and mutual-energy signs are ideal model conventions; they do not establish actual coupling, saturation or a safe winding connection.

reflected = inductance*ratio², where ratio is target-side turns divided by source-side turns for this reflection convention.

When to use this tool

Use Transformer Turns Ratio Reflected Inductance when checking one supplied turns-ratio, dot-reference or mutual-coupling term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter inductance, ratio. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read reflected. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative inductance and positive ratio. reflected = inductance*ratio², where ratio is target-side turns divided by source-side turns for this reflection convention.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use henries consistently. This ideal turns-square reflection does not include leakage, magnetizing branches, saturation or frequency-dependent losses.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full coupled circuit and component data for physical realizability, losses, transients and operating constraints.
