Resistor Junction Temperature Sensitivity Tool

First-order supplied linear resistance model and its temperature derivative.

Loading tool…

Description

resistance = referenceResistance*factor; derivative = referenceResistance*temperatureCoefficient.

Electrical dissipation and temperature coefficients depend on operating conditions and component reference values. A calculated loss, local temperature factor or supplied-rating margin is only part of a thermal and reliability assessment.

resistance = referenceResistance*factor; derivative = referenceResistance*temperatureCoefficient.

When to use this tool

Use Resistor Junction Temperature Sensitivity when checking one supplied loss, temperature or power-margin term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter referenceResistance, temperatureCoefficient, referenceTemperature, junctionTemperature. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read resistance, derivative. Use the output convention below.

Require positive referenceResistance and positive factor 1+temperatureCoefficient*(junctionTemperature-referenceTemperature). resistance = referenceResistance*factor; derivative = referenceResistance*temperatureCoefficient.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Temperature differences must match the coefficient's reciprocal temperature unit. This linear model does not estimate junction temperature or prove safe operation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use manufacturer ratings, thermal paths, derating and transient conditions for a complete practical design.
