Description
resistance = referenceResistance*factor; relativeChange = factor-1.
Electrical dissipation and temperature coefficients depend on operating conditions and component reference values. A calculated loss, local temperature factor or supplied-rating margin is only part of a thermal and reliability assessment.
resistance = referenceResistance*factor; relativeChange = factor-1.
When to use this tool
Use Electricity: Resistor Delta Temperature Coefficient Step when checking one supplied loss, temperature or power-margin term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter referenceResistance, temperatureCoefficient, temperatureChange. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.
Require positive referenceResistance and positive factor 1+temperatureCoefficient*temperatureChange. resistance = referenceResistance*factor; relativeChange = factor-1.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| referenceResistance | Reference Resistance | Required. Finite number. |
| temperatureCoefficient | Fractional resistance change per temperature unit, not ppm unless converted. | Required. Finite number. |
| temperatureChange | Temperature Change | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| result | Object containing the named calculated members below. | Required. Object. |
| result.resistance | Electrical resistance; use ohms with SI electrical inputs. | Calculated result member: number. |
| result.relativeChange | Relative Change | Calculated result member: number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use fractional temperature coefficient rather than ppm unless converted. Self-heating, coefficient nonlinearity and operating limits are not modeled.
- Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
