Description

conductance = (forwardCurrent+saturationCurrent)/(ideality*thermalVoltage); resistance is its reciprocal.

Ideal electrical component relations assume a stated topology, fixed parameters and coherent units. A local voltage, current or transformation term can be algebraically valid without accounting for parasitics, ratings or safe practical connections.

conductance = (forwardCurrent+saturationCurrent)/(ideality*thermalVoltage); resistance is its reciprocal.

When to use this tool

Use Diode Small Signal Conductance At Point when checking one explicit ideal-component or divider relationship.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter forwardCurrent, saturationCurrent, ideality, thermalVoltage. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read conductance, resistance. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative saturationCurrent, forwardCurrent+saturationCurrent > 0, and positive ideality and thermalVoltage. conductance = (forwardCurrent+saturationCurrent)/(ideality*thermalVoltage); resistance is its reciprocal.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use amperes and volts for siemens and ohms. This local exponential-diode relation does not derive temperature or saturation current and omits series resistance and high-current effects.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete circuit model and qualified practical design when loading, nonlinearity, transients or safety limits matter.
