Bridge Arm Ratio Balance Residual Tool

Return ideal unloaded bridge midpoint voltage difference and the exact resistor-ratio balance flag.

Loading tool…

Description

outputVoltage = supply*(bottomLeft/(topLeft+bottomLeft)-bottomRight/(topRight+bottomRight)); balanced checks exact topLeft*bottomRight === topRight*bottomLeft.

A resistive bridge relates two divider outputs to differential and common-mode voltages. Numerical balance depends on arm ratios, while practical balance, sensitivity and readout limits also depend on loading and calibration.

outputVoltage = supply*(bottomLeft/(topLeft+bottomLeft)-bottomRight/(topRight+bottomRight)); balanced checks exact topLeft*bottomRight === topRight*bottomLeft.

When to use this tool

Use Bridge Arm Ratio Balance Residual when checking a supplied ideal bridge or common-mode quantity.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter topLeft, bottomLeft, topRight, bottomRight, supply. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read outputVoltage, balanced. Inspect balanced before interpreting the associated values.

Require four positive arm resistances. outputVoltage = supply*(bottomLeft/(topLeft+bottomLeft)-bottomRight/(topRight+bottomRight)); balanced checks exact topLeft*bottomRight === topRight*bottomLeft.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use one resistance unit. Exact floating-point product equality has no tolerance and can differ from practical balance; output loading and sensor calibration are omitted.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full bridge, sensor and amplifier model for calibration, tolerances, common-mode range and measurement uncertainty.
