Test Item Unscored Weight Budget Tool

Calculate test item unscored weight budget from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Separate total assessment weight into scored and unscored portions.

Assessment coverage can refer to scored items, applicable items, observation counts or total weights. A support share depends on those choices and is separate from a final score, a validated scale or an inference about a learner.

Separate total assessment weight into scored and unscored portions.

When to use this tool

Use Test Item Unscored Weight Budget when checking an explicit assessment or observation-support denominator.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter weights, scored. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read scoredWeight, unscoredWeight. Use the output convention below.

Require equally long nonnegative weights and scored flags. scoredWeight sums weights whose flag is true; unscoredWeight sums the rest.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Weights are supplied scoring importance, not necessarily item counts or a full score. No missing-item policy, scale validity or fairness conclusion is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the assessment design, missing-item policy and observation method before interpreting coverage as valid achievement evidence.
