Research Item Response Latency Gap Tool

Calculate research item response latency gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

latency = responseAt-presentedAt; gap = latency-referenceLatency.

Educational time and material budgets need explicit working time, pauses, transitions, capacity and rate conventions. A numerical schedule allocation is a planning aid, not a validated recommendation for learning pace or an automatically feasible timetable.

latency = responseAt-presentedAt; gap = latency-referenceLatency.

When to use this tool

Use Research Item Response Latency Gap when checking a supplied teaching, study or assessment-resource budget.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter responseAt, presentedAt, referenceLatency. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read latency, gap. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative referenceLatency. latency = responseAt-presentedAt; gap = latency-referenceLatency.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use one synchronized time unit. Negative latency is retained; the arithmetic does not identify cognitive processing time, invalid trials or an appropriate response-time threshold.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the actual timetable, resources, learner needs and approved policies to assess a practical plan.
