Description
Label a recorded response-validity status with an optional reason.
Assessment records distinguish presented items, responses, deliberate skips, missingness, accommodations, versions and reference populations. A score contribution depends on its chosen denominator and weight, while one confidence gap is not a full calibration study. Recorded observations and timing differences do not establish learner ability or an appropriate intervention.
Label a recorded response-validity status with an optional reason.
When to use this tool
Use Exam Response Invalidity Tag when you already have itemId, validityStatus, reason and need to label a recorded response-validity status with an optional reason.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter itemId, validityStatus, reason. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read tag. Use the output convention below.
Require itemId nonempty and validityStatus valid/invalid/undetermined; invalid requires reason.trim() nonempty. Include any nonempty original reason without trimming its display.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |

| validityStatus | Validity Status | Required. Text; one of "valid", "invalid", "undetermined"; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| reason | Invalid status requires a nonblank trimmed test, but the original untrimmed text is displayed. | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |

| tag | Tag | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |

"input": {
"itemId": "Q17",
"validityStatus": "invalid",
"reason": "duplicate marking"
},
"output": {
"tag": "Q17 [invalid; duplicate marking]"
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- Other statuses may carry a reason. No response is evaluated, invalidity inferred or assessment policy applied.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the full assessment manual, item records, population reference and research design for score interpretation. Review missingness, exposure, accommodations and comparability; local labels or contributions do not replace psychometric analysis or an appropriate educational assessment.
